Engine Services in Eugene, Springfield, and Junction City

Engine Service Near Me

Your engine is the heart of your vehicle, and when something isn’t right, it usually lets you know. A check engine light, a rough idle, or a drop in fuel economy can all point to a problem that is easier and less expensive to fix when it’s caught early.

Today’s vehicles rely on dozens of sensors and computer modules to keep everything running smoothly. At Sun Automotive, our Technicians use professional-grade scan tools and years of hands-on experience to find the real cause of the problem, not just read a code. That means you only pay for the repairs your vehicle actually needs.

Engine Diagnostics FAQs

What does a check engine light actually mean?

It means your vehicle’s computer has stored a trouble code for something outside of normal operating range. It could be something minor like a loose gas cap, or something more serious like a misfire. A flashing light means stop driving and call us right away, since that usually points to damage happening in real time.

Can't I just get the code read for free at a parts store?

A code reader tells you which system reported a problem, not what’s causing it. A code for an oxygen sensor, for example, can be triggered by a vacuum leak, a wiring issue, or the sensor itself. Our Technicians test the system to find the real cause so you aren’t paying to replace parts that were fine.

How long does an engine diagnostic take?

Most diagnostics take about an hour, though complicated or intermittent issues can take longer. We’ll let you know what we find and what the repair involves before any work begins.

Is it safe to keep driving with the check engine light on?

If the light is steady and the vehicle is driving normally, it’s usually safe to get to the shop. If it’s flashing, or if you notice rough running, overheating, or a loss of power, it’s best to stop driving and have the vehicle towed.

Do you work on newer vehicles with all the computers and sensors?

Yes. Our Technicians are ASE certified and we keep up with professional scan tools and training so we can diagnose domestic, import, and European vehicles, including recent model years.
